Ste Genevieve Sweet Moscato

Here is a one we like from Texas Winery Ste Genevieve.  It's a Sweet Moscato with a 12% Alcohol Content!  Only sold in Texas though, so may be tough for some to try this one out.  For the Winos, this one gets a "Good Rating".

December 5, 2012

Ste Genevieve Blush

Here is one that both Winos gave a Good Rating.  From Texas Winery Ste Genevieve comes a Blush that tastes great and comes in at a healthy 12% Alcohol Content.  Even better the big bottle cost less than $9 at the local grocery store!

Dudley's Draw House Wines (College Station, TX)

Playing darts at another watering hole at the old alma mater, decided to "taste" a few glasses of wine.  Dudley's Draw was serving Lucky 7 Cabernet Sauvignon and Lucky 7 Chardonnay.  The Cabernet gets a Neutral Rating; White Wine Wino was not convinced to buy it again.  The Chardonnay gets a Good Rating; both Winos agreed on this one!

Church Street BBQ (College Station, TX)

Was out and about at the old alma mater, stopped at Church Street BBQ in College Station.  Had been here before; liked the live music; liked the drink specials.  This stop it did not disappoint.  It was Open Mic Night so a number of local musicians were singing.  Also, it was $2 Tuesday, so everything was only $2!  This time ordered a Sangria, a Texas Tea, and Barefoot Merlot...  all easily get a Good Rating.  We will definitely be back!

Peter Vella Vineyard's - Delicious Red

Picked up a wine in a box from Peter Vella Vineyards.  This one is a red wine called Delicious Red.  Best Taste in 2011's Chefs Award, will have to agree that it does taste good.  Not too sweet, not to bitter... this one gets a Good Rating from both Winos.  Will buy this one again in the future.

Arbor Mist Frozen Wine Cocktails - Moscato Mango Strawberry

Here is one the White Wino picked up while running errands.  It comes from Arbor Mist and is one of several selections of their Frozen Wine Cocktails.  Taste alone brings this one into the "Good Rating" but throw in the discount price (less than $2) and the cool packaging that makes it compliant wherever bottles are not allowed.

Franzia White Zinfandel

Coming back for more of the "wine in the box"... liked others from Franzia.  This one we also liked!  It's their White Zinfandel.  We have had this one before but never posted it.  True to the Winos' Rating System, the White Zinfandel gets a "Good Rating" as we have (and will continue to) purchase it again.  Great price, green friendly packaging, and 10% Alcohol Content!

October 30, 2012

Foxhorn Vienyards Shiraz

Here is one that took the Winos off guard.... meaning we really liked it!  It's a Shiraz from down under - specifically Foxhorn Vineyards (an Australian Winery that brews in small lots).  We lucked into this one when we found it at a local convenience store that carries a surprising variety of wines.

Kept an open mind given the screw top cap (no cork screw needed here).  Good thing... this one gets a "Good Rating" for three reasons:  (1) Taste... as good as more higher priced Shiraz. (2) Price... less than $10 gets you the 1.5 liter bottle.  (3) And, alcohol content... 13% by volume!

October 27, 2012

Sutter Home Sweet White Wine

Here is one both Winos liked.  It's Sutter Home's Sweet White Wine.  Reminds us of a Pinot Grigio but sweet.  This one gets a "Good Rating"; even better that it only put a $5 dent in the pocketbook!  Give it a try some time.

October 22, 2012

Be Flirty Pink Moscato 2011

Here is one the Winos picked up while grocery shopping.  The local grocery store had a vendor setup a wine tasting display.  There selections for the tasting were from Be Flirty...  Given the name of the wine, the pleasing to look at hostess, and the chance at free wine (at least a "taste"), the Red Wine Wino gave it as try.  In this case, a bottle of their Pink Moscato was the result.  Later while watching the Baseball Playoffs, the Winos broke open the bottle and agreed to buy this one again!  This one gets a "Good Rating" (alcohol content 9.5%, too).

Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling Columbia Valley

The White Wino picked this one up - a Sweet Riesling from Pacific Rim.  It has a slight sweet taste that the Red Wine Wino liked but for whatever reason the White Wino opted not to buy again.  This one gets a Neutral Rating as the Winos could not agree.

October 7, 2012

Franzia Sunset Blush

Franzia Sunset Blush makes the grade again.... earning another "Good Rating" from the two Winos.  Even better, picked up the 5 liter box for $8.97 at the local grocery store; Cannot beat that!

October 6, 2012

Earth Wise Vineyard's Moscato

Here is a new one that both Winos liked... a Moscato from Earth Wise Vineyards.  Tastes good, alcohol content is high (@11%), and the price is right!  This one gets a "Good Rating" from the Winos.  Give it a try when you get a chance.

September 28, 2012

Sofia Rose' 2010

Here is one the two Winos tried as well as our Guest Wino!  Fun times to be had but too bad for this one.  The two Winos and the Guest Wino agreed not to buy this one again.  Something was missing, not sure what... do have to say the bottle is very nice looking.  Shapely with a slender neck.  For the wine itself, it left more to be desired.  This one gets a "Bad Rating" as we do not plan to buy this in the future.

September 23, 2012

Landon Winery's Gewürztraminer

Another stop on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy more sweet wines at the Landon Winery.  This round went with a Gewurztraminer and a Cheese Plate.  This one easily earns a "God Rating" from the two Winos!  Really impressed with this Texas Winery's offerings in sweet wines.  Will be back again.

Mixed Drinks at La Duni....

Decided on mixed drinks at a local eatery.  La Duni located at the Village in Fairview offers a variety of cocktails.  This round opted for a Frozen Mojito and a Margarihna On the Rocks.  Frozen Mojito was tasty; Winos agreed on a "Good Rating" for it.  The Margarihna is a variation of a margarita but made with limes and topped with sugar instead of salt.  Not too sure on this one, so it was rated "Neutral".  Will need to come back and try other drinks they offer but till then we are keeping the Mojito in our back pocket for future visits.

September 19, 2012

Sho Chiku Bai Sake

Red Wine Wino always ready to try new things, opted for bottle of Sake.  This one comes from California and can be served warm or cold.  In this case, decided to go with warming it first.  White Wine Wino normally craves unfiltered Sake but did like this one.  Red Wine Wino was good with it, too.  Like its smoothness when taken in "small shots" that the Sake cups remind us of.  Even better 15% alcohol content gives it a little more umph than some wines!

Beringer White Merlot

Here is one that we have not tried before... or at least we don't recall if we did.  It's Beringer's White Merlot.  White Wine Wino chose it; Red Wine Wino liked it.  This one gets a "Good Rating"!  Give it a try when you get a chance.  This trip went with two bottles for the wine rack.

September 16, 2012

Calahan's, New Braunfels, Texas

One last stop in New Braunfels before moving on.  This one is an Irish Pub serving Barefoot Merlot for their House Red.  It's Calahan's located in downtown New Braunfels.  Barefoot has always been a consistent producer of wines we liked.  This stop re-affirmed our opinion with the Barefoot Merlot earning another "Good Rating"!

The Ale House, New Braunfels, Texas

Continuing on our "walkabout" in downtown New Braunfels, checked out The Ale House and ordered their House Red and a Pale Ale.... House Red turned out to be a Copperidge Merlot; Pale Ale was one we have not tried before - 151 Austin Ale.  The Copperidge Merlot earned a "Good Rating"; moreover, although we are not big on ales, the 151 Austin Ale was a pleasant surprise!

Scores Sport Bar, New Braunfels, Texas - Woodbridge Merlot

While out and about this weekend, stopped at a sports bar in New Braunfels to checkout a few NCAA Football Games.  While reviewing the scores, ordered their House Red which turned out to be the Woodbridge Merlot.  Had this one before and liked it.  This time, both Winos liked it again... this one gets a "Good Rating" again!

Beringer Pink Moscato

We have tried other Beringer offerings.  This round we tried Beringer's Pink Moscato.  Sweet wine with a slightly higher alcohol content than the white wine variety.  This one gets a "Good Rating" - price and taste won both Winos over.

September 12, 2012

Landon Winery - Sweet Wines

Went back to Landon Winery in downtown McKinney (Texas).  Decided to try their Sweet Wines - Raspberry, Peach, and Sweet Red.  Of the three the Raspberry and the Sweet Red earned Good Ratings; we will buy them again with a leaning toward the Raspberry Wine over the Sweet Red.  Both were good, just liked it over the Sweet Red more.  The Peach Wine was good too but did not carry the "umph" that hard core Winos like us enjoy (more like crave) when we are drinking.

Churchill's Pub

Returned to Churchill's Pub for more wine and spirits... ordered two glasses of Chardonnay and a Jack and Coke.  Chardonnay gets a Neutral rating as the White Wine Wino did not like it but the Red Wine Wino was good with it.

September 8, 2012

Landon Winery - Texas Tempranillo

Stopped at a local winery for a glass wine after dinner.  The winery is Landon Winery located in McKinney, Texas.  They offer a number of wines to chose from; in our case, we decided on their Tempranillo.  This one gets a Good Rating!

Churchill's Pub - Wine and Mixed Drinks, McKinney Texas

Stopped at a local bar called Churchill's Pub.  Ordered mixed drinks and their house red wines - a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  Pass on the mixed drinks; the Limoncella Martini was not what we were looking for.  But, the house red wines were!  Both get a Good Rating.  Problem is we forgot the name of the Winery.  It start with "Shadow..." else we forget the other words.

Yellowtail Pinot Noir Shiraz

Here is a red wine that comes from Yellowtail Winery of Australia.  We liked their Shiraz; we also like this one - a mix of Pinot Noir and Shiraz!  This one gets a Good Rating from the Winos!

Margarita Time at Gloria's

Continuing with the Margarita break, stopped at Gloria's Restaurant for Happy Hour.  We still consider this the best Margarita in our area... just be careful, don't drink more than two else it will be painful the next morning!

PS:  Could not pass up the Ice Cream and Plantain Dessert!

Margarita Time at Jalapenos

Decided to take a Margarita break and stopped at a local eatery that we have not been to in a long time.  It is a Tex-Mex Restaurant called Jalapenos.  Ordered the Traditional Margarita as the Mercedes Premium Margarita is very good but very strong in alcohol content.  They still make a good Margarita!

Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon

Here is a red wine we liked; easily earned a Good Rating as both Winos agreed to purchase it again in the future.  Comes from Robert Mondavi... Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010.  Do give this one a try.

September 3, 2012

Londoner Pub - House Wine and a Mixed Drink

Listened to a live band while sitting at a local eatery - Londoner Pub.  Ordered their House Wine and a mixed drink called the Fleur De Lis.  House wine was a Merlot that the Winos liked, easily earning a Good Rating.

Mixed drink was tasty, too.  It's made with Chambord Vodka, Chambord Liquer, Lemonade, Cranberry, and a squeeze of Lemon!

August 30, 2012

Barefoot Winery's Pink Moscato

Having tried their other Moscatos, noticed this one on the shelf at the local grocery store -  Barefoot Winery's Pink Moscato.  Rated at 9% Alcohol Content, so it's a little less than their Sweet Moscato, this one gets a "Good Rating" from the Winos!  Reminds us of the Sweet Moscato but has a "Zinfandel" feel to it.  Regardless, it tastes good and it's light on the pocket book.

August 25, 2012

Church Street BBQ - House Reds

One more stop while roaming the off-campus area known locally as the Northgate back at Texas A&M.  This one was not there back when the two Winos went to school back in the day.  But, we liked the live music, so we stopped to check them out.  While there, ordered a Ziegenbock Beer and then their House Reds they offered.  Guess what... the House Reds were Barefoot Winery's Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.  "Good Ratings" for both of them!

Dixie Chicken Red Sangria

Making the rounds on the old stomping grounds this weekend.  Had a Lonestar Beer and then a Red Sangria from the Dixie Chicken!  Guess what... both Winos give the Red Sangria a "Good Rating"!  Will buy this one again.

Taco Cabana Margaritas (College Station, Texas)

This is one the Winos always can agree on.  Stopped at our alma mater... Gig'em Aggies!  Taco Cabana in College Station still makes a decent Margarita; easily earns a "Good Rating"!

Cavalli Pizzeria and Wine Bar - House Berry Sangria

Here are two Sangrias the Winos tried at a favored pizzeria.  Cavalli Pizzeria and Wine Bar in McKinney, Texas offers a White Berry Sangria and a Red Berry Sangria.  The Sangrias are made daily with the fruit allowed to soak overnight.  The Winos gave it a try.  And, decided on a "Good Rating" for the Red Berry Sangria and a "Neutral Rating" for the White Berry Sangria.  The Red Wine Wino just could not agree on buying the White Berry Sangria again.

August 19, 2012

Choctaw Casino House Wine - Liberty Creek Merlot

Was out hitting the slots at Choctaw Casino.  Ordered a House Red Wine; turned out to be Liberty Creek Merlot!  We liked this one in the past; we still like it now.  The Winos give it another "Good Rating"!

August 11, 2012

Not a Wine but... Angry Orchard Hard Cider

Found the beer we had at Village Burger the other day.  Picked it up at Market Street; it turned out to be a Hard Cider.  Both Winos agreed to buy this one again!  Not a wine but it earns a "Good Rating"!

Cherry On Top Sweet White Wine

Was at the grocery store and was offered to taste a couple of wines from the Cherry On Top Winery.  Liked both red and white sweet wines they offered; White Wine Wino opted to buy a bottle of the Sweet White Wine.  Both Winos agreed to buy both red and white sweet wines but this round went only with the Sweet White Wine... it is a blend Muscat, Reisling, Gewurtzramnier, Chenin Blanc, and Viogner.  This one easily earns a "Good Rating"!

August 10, 2012

Village Burger for Drinks!

Decided on some drinks at a local eatery instead of wine.  We went with a Mangorita, a Pomerita, and Angry Orchard Beer.  The "Ritas" were tasty like always but the surprise was the beer.  We noticed the Angry Orchard Beer was more like a Cider than a Pale Ale that we thought it was.  Pleasant surprise when we tasted this one!

August 8, 2012

Anamia's House Wine...

Stopped in Coppell, Texas for dinner. Ordered a House Red Wine from a Mexican Food Restaurant called Anamia's.  It was a Woodbridge Cabernet Sauvignon.  Liked this one... Gets a "Good Rating"!

August 4, 2012

Village Burger's Chamborita

Had a hankering for something other than wine.  Decided to stop at a local eatery that two Winos like - Village Burger Restaurant.  They offer great burgers; more important... they offer great late evening "Happy Hour Specials"!  In this case, we chose a Margarita they mix with a liqueur and call it the Chamborita.  Good stuff,... potent, too.  As a general rule, we limit ourselves to two drinks and no more as the drink tends to be on the strong side.

Barefoot Winery's Red Moscato

Here is an offering from Barefoot Winery; it's a Red Moscato.  We like it but do prefer their Moscato over this one.  The Red Moscato has some "fizz" and has a Sangria like feel to it.  We would buy this one again, so it gets a "Good Rating"!

July 16, 2012

Franzia - Chillable Red

Here is another red wine we picked up from Franzia.... It's their Chillable Red!  Not a bad wine for the price - 5 liters for $12.00.  Red Wine Wino easily rated this one as a Good!  White Wine Wino followed in kind. A little light on the alcohol content for a red wine (9.0% on the box). Regardless, do try it when you get a chance.
