A web log started by two Wine Enthusiasts, synonym for "Winos". Its intent is to log our thoughts and opinions about inexpensive wines available at local grocery and beverage stores. Our hope is to prevent other "Winos" from making the same mistakes we made with our wine purchases.

Sofia Rose' 2010
Here is one the two Winos tried as well as our Guest Wino! Fun times to be had but too bad for this one. The two Winos and the Guest Wino agreed not to buy this one again. Something was missing, not sure what... do have to say the bottle is very nice looking. Shapely with a slender neck. For the wine itself, it left more to be desired. This one gets a "Bad Rating" as we do not plan to buy this in the future.

Landon Winery's Gewürztraminer
Another stop on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy more sweet wines at the Landon Winery. This round went with a Gewurztraminer and a Cheese Plate. This one easily earns a "God Rating" from the two Winos! Really impressed with this Texas Winery's offerings in sweet wines. Will be back again.
Mixed Drinks at La Duni....
Decided on mixed drinks at a local eatery. La Duni located at the Village in Fairview offers a variety of cocktails. This round opted for a Frozen Mojito and a Margarihna On the Rocks. Frozen Mojito was tasty; Winos agreed on a "Good Rating" for it. The Margarihna is a variation of a margarita but made with limes and topped with sugar instead of salt. Not too sure on this one, so it was rated "Neutral". Will need to come back and try other drinks they offer but till then we are keeping the Mojito in our back pocket for future visits.

Sho Chiku Bai Sake
Red Wine Wino always ready to try new things, opted for bottle of Sake. This one comes from California and can be served warm or cold. In this case, decided to go with warming it first. White Wine Wino normally craves unfiltered Sake but did like this one. Red Wine Wino was good with it, too. Like its smoothness when taken in "small shots" that the Sake cups remind us of. Even better 15% alcohol content gives it a little more umph than some wines!
Beringer White Merlot
Here is one that we have not tried before... or at least we don't recall if we did. It's Beringer's White Merlot. White Wine Wino chose it; Red Wine Wino liked it. This one gets a "Good Rating"! Give it a try when you get a chance. This trip went with two bottles for the wine rack.

Calahan's, New Braunfels, Texas
One last stop in New Braunfels before moving on. This one is an Irish Pub serving Barefoot Merlot for their House Red. It's Calahan's located in downtown New Braunfels. Barefoot has always been a consistent producer of wines we liked. This stop re-affirmed our opinion with the Barefoot Merlot earning another "Good Rating"!
The Ale House, New Braunfels, Texas
Continuing on our "walkabout" in downtown New Braunfels, checked out The Ale House and ordered their House Red and a Pale Ale.... House Red turned out to be a Copperidge Merlot; Pale Ale was one we have not tried before - 151 Austin Ale. The Copperidge Merlot earned a "Good Rating"; moreover, although we are not big on ales, the 151 Austin Ale was a pleasant surprise!
Scores Sport Bar, New Braunfels, Texas - Woodbridge Merlot
While out and about this weekend, stopped at a sports bar in New Braunfels to checkout a few NCAA Football Games. While reviewing the scores, ordered their House Red which turned out to be the Woodbridge Merlot. Had this one before and liked it. This time, both Winos liked it again... this one gets a "Good Rating" again!
Beringer Pink Moscato
We have tried other Beringer offerings. This round we tried Beringer's Pink Moscato. Sweet wine with a slightly higher alcohol content than the white wine variety. This one gets a "Good Rating" - price and taste won both Winos over.

Landon Winery - Sweet Wines
Went back to Landon Winery in downtown McKinney (Texas). Decided to try their Sweet Wines - Raspberry, Peach, and Sweet Red. Of the three the Raspberry and the Sweet Red earned Good Ratings; we will buy them again with a leaning toward the Raspberry Wine over the Sweet Red. Both were good, just liked it over the Sweet Red more. The Peach Wine was good too but did not carry the "umph" that hard core Winos like us enjoy (more like crave) when we are drinking.
Churchill's Pub
Returned to Churchill's Pub for more wine and spirits... ordered two glasses of Chardonnay and a Jack and Coke. Chardonnay gets a Neutral rating as the White Wine Wino did not like it but the Red Wine Wino was good with it.

Landon Winery - Texas Tempranillo
Stopped at a local winery for a glass wine after dinner. The winery is Landon Winery located in McKinney, Texas. They offer a number of wines to chose from; in our case, we decided on their Tempranillo. This one gets a Good Rating!
Churchill's Pub - Wine and Mixed Drinks, McKinney Texas
Stopped at a local bar called Churchill's Pub. Ordered mixed drinks and their house red wines - a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Pass on the mixed drinks; the Limoncella Martini was not what we were looking for. But, the house red wines were! Both get a Good Rating. Problem is we forgot the name of the Winery. It start with "Shadow..." else we forget the other words.
Yellowtail Pinot Noir Shiraz
Here is a red wine that comes from Yellowtail Winery of Australia. We liked their Shiraz; we also like this one - a mix of Pinot Noir and Shiraz! This one gets a Good Rating from the Winos!
Margarita Time at Gloria's
Continuing with the Margarita break, stopped at Gloria's Restaurant for Happy Hour. We still consider this the best Margarita in our area... just be careful, don't drink more than two else it will be painful the next morning!
PS: Could not pass up the Ice Cream and Plantain Dessert!
Margarita Time at Jalapenos
Decided to take a Margarita break and stopped at a local eatery that we have not been to in a long time. It is a Tex-Mex Restaurant called Jalapenos. Ordered the Traditional Margarita as the Mercedes Premium Margarita is very good but very strong in alcohol content. They still make a good Margarita!
Robert Mondavi Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
Here is a red wine we liked; easily earned a Good Rating as both Winos agreed to purchase it again in the future. Comes from Robert Mondavi... Private Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. Do give this one a try.

Londoner Pub - House Wine and a Mixed Drink
Listened to a live band while sitting at a local eatery - Londoner Pub. Ordered their House Wine and a mixed drink called the Fleur De Lis. House wine was a Merlot that the Winos liked, easily earning a Good Rating.
